About this listing
Cavo Sidero (Cape Sidero), located at the easternmost tip of Crete, consists of two narrow peninsulas stretching into the deep waters of the Aegean Sea. Since ancient times, it has been an important maritime crossroads and later served as a refuge for pirates navigating the eastern Mediterranean.
Its steep and rugged coastline hides shipwrecks that stand as silent reminders of the power of nature. For the safety of sailors, the historic Cape Sidero Lighthouse was built in 1880 and still dominates the landscape today.
The area is also home to the ruins of an ancient temple dedicated to the goddess Athena, which according to mythology was built by the Argonauts. On the same spot today stands the small chapel of Agios Isidoros, a place of great spiritual and historical significance.
Combining history, myth, and wild natural beauty, Cavo Sidero is one of the most impressive highlights of our private yacht cruises and boat trips from Sitia and Vai Beach in Eastern Crete.
